Last month, Republican lawmakers called on the House to pass a third reconciliation package, often referred to as Reconciliation 3.0, which would address federal spending, strengthen border security and provide economic relief to Americans.
Some are calling it ‘the best gift to America on her 250th birthday is to rein in Washington’s out-of-control spending and put more money back into the pockets of Americans by the 4th of July.’
“This bill allows us to make America affordable again. It allows us to make America secure, and it allows us to make America fraud-free,” Texas Republican Congressman August Pfluger said.
The proposal includes a roughly $72 billion package, giving $30.73 billion to U.S. Immigration Customs and Enforcement and $22.57 billion for U.S. Customs and Border Protection to hire, train, pay, and equip personnel. It would also lower taxes and eliminate government fraud—all which needs to happen sooner than later.
Texas Republican Rep. Jodey Arrington, who has played a key role in crafting the proposal, said Congress needs to move quickly to advance the legislation.
“We’re going to have to move quickly,” Arrington said. “I think we have 25 legislative days left before August break. We need to have something out of the House by then, at least. So, time is of the essence.”
The reconciliation bill offers a major spending reform, one that will provide real financial relief by modifying the Affordable Care Act funding, adjusting Medicaid eligibility and enrollment requirements, and creating grant programs for rural hospitals.
The legislation would also modify the individual tax rates and include provisions related to overtime pay, tips, and the child tax credit.
Recently, federal data showed the U.S. national debt exceeded 100 percent of gross domestic product, yet Congress missed an opportunity to address spending reforms during the previous reconciliation package and should move quickly to advance additional reforms.
Congress needs to initiate the process within the next two weeks for major budget reforms via a Reconciliation 3.0 package to deliver real results for Americans and invest in the Country’s financial security by reforming D.C.’s spending issues by the 4th of July.
Despite intraparty disagreements that have slowed the progress on the proposal, Arrington remains focused and determined to pass the bill.
“I’m telling you, we’re going to get a third reconciliation. We’re going to keep advancing the America First agenda. We’re going to keep delivering on what the American people sent us here to do,” Arrington said.
