Individuals linked to the left-wing activist group Antifa have been sentenced to decades in prison for their roles in the attack on an Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility detention facility in North Texas.
The attack occurred on July 4,2025, when 11 Antifa members arrived late at night at the Prairieland ICE Detention Facility in Alvarado. According to federal authorities, the group was dressed in black clothing and wore head and face coverings to conceal their identities. The individuals carried firearms, body armor, and military-grade first-aid kits containing supplies used to treat gunshot wounds.
After arriving at the facility, members of the group began launching fireworks, vandalized property, and damaged vehicles.
Department of Homeland Security personnel at the facility called 911, prompting a response from local law enforcement. According to authorities, after an Alvarado police officer issued commands to the group, two individuals fled into nearby woods and fired approximately 30 rounds from AR-15 style rifles.
One Alvarado police officer was struck in the neck but fortunately survived the shooting.
Earlier this week, the Department of Justice announced that eight members of the North Texas Antifa cell were sentenced for their involvement in the attack.
Benjamin Hanil Song, who was convicted of the attempted murder of a law enforcement officer and was identified as the organizer of the attack, was sentenced to 100 years in prison.
Maricela Rueda was sentenced to 70 years in prison. Cameron Arnold, Savanna Batten, Zachary Evetts, Bradford Morris, and Elizabeth Soto each received 50-year prison sentences on charges that included providing material support to terrorists and rioting. Daniel Rolando Sanchez-Estrada was sentenced to 30 years in prison after being convicted of conspiracy to conceal documents and corruptly concealing a document or record.
In September 2025, President Donald Trump designated Antifa as a domestic terrorist organization, citing repeated incidents involving violence against law enforcement, organized riots, and attacks on federal immigration facilities.
“The sentences handed down today make clear that Antifa terrorists who attack law enforcement and federal facilities will face swift and uncompromising justice,” said Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche. “Their violent extremism has no place in our country, and the Department of Justice will continue to aggressively investigate, disrupt, and prosecute those who threaten law enforcement officers or undermine the rule of law.”
