A new report from the RAIR Foundation, has revealed that the Council on American-Islamic Relations and the Muslim Brotherhood are attempting to influence the American judicial system by supporting candidates for judicial office.
The report states that CAIR continues to exert their influence in Texas and Florida, despite both governors declaring it a foreign terrorist organization. (FTO)
CAIR and the Muslim Brotherhood are currently designated as FTO’s in the State of Texas. In Florida, Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis also issued an executive order labeling CAIR and the Muslim Brotherhood as FTO’s. However, that designation is currently blocked pending litigation.
However, even with these designations, the two groups are continuing to embed Muslim-friendly judges into the courts.
In Texas, the report highlights that CAIR is backing two Democrat judges in Harris and Fort Bend County.
Dexter McCoy is running for Fort Bend County judge. He currently serves as a Fort Bend County commissioner and has publicly defended Islam. McCoy criticized Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s 2025 designation of CAIR as a FTO. The report also notes that McCoy and members of his team have regularly visited local mosques to build relationships with religious leaders and community members.
Letitia Plummer is running for Harris County judge. Plummer, a Houston city council member, has stated that she would “defend immigrant rights” and advocate for transparency regarding the use of local resources to enforce federal immigration laws.
During her time on the Houston City Council, Plummer proposed an ordinance that would have allowed Houston police officers to opt out of cooperation with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers on matters of illegal aliens residing in the U.S.
Texas isn’t the only state that CAIR is trying to embed Muslim supporters into its court system.
In Florida, where CAIR is essentially banned, former state Rep. Christopher Benjamin, who is now a Miami-Dade County Court judge, previously defended CAIR during remarks on the Florida House floor and downplaying the organization’s ties to terror.
After Benjamin won his judicial race, CAIR-Florida celebrated his victory, stating that he had stood with the organization during critical moments and expressed confidence that he will not be the last.
